Basically any plastic laminate countertop which has a special type edge is going to need to be completely replaced if water has damaged the seam area. Placing a hot pan directly on the countertop weakens the adhesive holding the laminate to the substrate. If a small amount of water has leaked toward the edges of the flooring pull up any quarter round shoe molding or baseboards around the perimeter.

Spill grape juice or tomato sauce on your countertop then clean it with ease and not leave a stain. This thin layer of plastic is not water proof only water resistant and what is underneath it layers of colored paper. This rings true for wood edges beveled laminate corian or solid surface type edges. Ultimately whether you have time and patience will dictate your direction.
