For those tenacious water rings around a faucet resulting from hard water that sits on the surface try scrubbing softly with a brillo pad or gently scraping with a razor blade then wiping away the residue with a soft damp cloth. After applying the first coat of sealer test again noting the improvement increase in time to absorption. The porous surface of stone allows water to cling to it and absorb darkening the appearance. Once the sealer is stripped off the surface your water marks should be gone and the surface back to normal.

Water rings on granite are particularly common as water on a cooler glass will form condensation and result in a circle of moisture on the counter. It isn t stained rather the minerals that are in the water have built up. This vinegar treatment also works to remove deposits from room sized humidifiers with a few applications your granite will look new again.
